Give A Gift This Holiday Season

This is the week that many of us have been waiting all year for.  We're excited to spend the holidays with friends and family, sharing in family traditions and time-honored culture.  One of the best pieces of advice I can offer to business owners is to give a gift this holiday season.

When I worked for "the man" in my previous corporate gig, Christmas was the time of year when we would receive gift boxes and treats from longtime vendors and clients.  Some folks would send a standard card.  Others a box of Harry & David gourmet fruits, or a box of Godiva chocolates.  You get the idea.  It was something nice that could be shared by everyone in the office.

It was a no-brainer that I wanted to give back to clients and business contacts in a similar manner when I can.  Thankfully, I have the time and ability to bake.  Many of our longtime and dedicated clients appreciate the handcrafted packages of homemade cookies - taking into account one client's food allergies and putting together something special just for him.  

Realizing that baking cookies for all of our client contacts and affiliates is not a good use of time, we also occasionally offer customers and new clients a gift of sorts through promotional offers - perhaps a free gift or a discount.  Whichever option we go with, most in our circle have been happy that we thought of them for the holidays.

Whether you're starting out, or have been in business for a while, remember that even Ebenezer Scrooge made Christmas special by giving something back.
