Beechview Businesses to Launch Small Business Saturday Community Event
Promoting Recent Rejuvenation of Community Business Development

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - Beechview, a Pittsburgh community languished by the Bernardo Katz legacy, is starting to show signs of life along its Broadway Avenue business corridor.  With the recent addition of new businesses, Beechview is banding together for its first community-organized Small Business Saturday event on November 25, 2017.  Whether you’re on your way to or from the Pittsburgh Holiday parade, Beechview businesses are providing some great reasons to stop in.

“Beechview has some great local businesses,” said Joyce Crock, owner of Sparkledragon’s Magical Emporium. “I’ve tried to promote Small Business Saturday for my shop in the past, and am excited that we have some new businesses that will be taking part to really make it a community event,” she added.

Small Business Saturday, as a program, was established in 2010 as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Instead of focusing on big box retail sales and e-commerce, it focuses on a “Shop Small” effort.  The program is to encourage shoppers to spend money on local shops and retailers instead of larger chain stores.

There are approximately 36 small businesses along the Broadway Avenue business corridor in Beechview, ranging from specialty shops like Sparkledragon’s Magical Emporium to neighborhood staples like The Huddle.  Many plan to participate in some capacity with the community Small Business Saturday event.

“Tucked between Banksville Road and West Liberty Avenue, the Broadway Avenue corridor is a sleeping commercial district that is starting to awaken,” said Daniel Berkowitz, CEO of Atlas Development.  “Small Business Saturday is the perfect opportunity for Pittsburghers to see what Beechview has to offer,” he added.

Plans for the Small Business Saturday event in Beechview currently include a scavenger hunt, a holiday boutique and soup sale, visit with Santa, live music, and more.  Additional information about the event will be available at www.bit.ly/SmBzSat2017.
